A Study on the Gravure Printability for Realizing Fine Resolution in Printed Electronics

Abstract

Printed electronics based on roll-to-roll systems are promising for fabricating devices such as organicthin film transistors (OTFTs), displays and sensors. Gravure printing is one of the most promising high-speedroll-to-roll techniques for printed electronics. In this research, we demonstrated that high viscous silver ink withtrench is suitable to print fine lines by studying specific printing parameters. In order to realize the fine lines, wefirst manufactured the new nano particle silver paste ink to improve printing quality in regards to smooth surfaceand high conductive lines. Then, we introduced new ink filling process to fill the trench with the high viscousink. Then, proper doctoring and printing condition were researched to obtain uniform and narrow lines. Finally,high conductive lines with high resolution were realized based on optimization resulted each printing processes.As result, fine printed lines with line width of 20 ㎛, thickness of 2 ㎛ and resistivity of 1.3E-05 Ωcm wereproduced.
